Frequently asked
Quick answers to the stuff people ask before signing up. Don't see your question? Hit the Contact page.
What is EarTag, in one sentence?
Livestock recordkeeping built for homesteaders. Every record an animal generates — vaccinations, weights, kiddings, sales, registration paperwork, whatever — kept in one place, ready to hand over to a vet, an auctioneer, a registry, or a buyer the moment they ask.
When can I actually use it?
We're in development right now. Drop your email on the landing page waitlist and we'll let you know when early access opens. The web app is closer to ready than the phone app — early users will start on the web and the phone app will follow.
What's it going to cost?
Free while we're in early access. When pricing kicks in, the plan is: one fair monthly price, probably with a free tier for very small operations.
Early users won't be surprised — we'll tell you well before anything starts costing money, and people who were here at the start get treated well.
Which animals does it work for?
Built around goats, sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry, and rabbits — the species most homesteads actually run. If you keep something we don't yet support, tell us through Contact and we'll consider it. We'd rather add a species deliberately than fake-support twenty of them.
Will there be a phone app?
Yes. The whole point is logging things in the barn or at the chute — that's a phone-in-pocket job, not a laptop-at-the-house job. A proper native phone app is in the works. The web app is what's ready first; the phone app will share the same account and the same data.
Does it work offline?
That's the goal for the phone app — log a weight standing in a field with no signal, sync when you get back. The web app needs an internet connection (you're in a browser already).
Can I share records with my vet, my buyer, or my family?
Yes. You can invite people to your flock with different levels of access — family member who logs alongside you, worker who can log but not change settings, vet who can read everything, buyer who can only see the one animal you sent them. There's also a no-account-required share link for one-off "send this to the buyer" moments.
Is my data safe? Are you going to sell it?
Not selling it. Not now, not ever. The whole pitch of this app is "your records, yours." Selling them would burn it down. See the privacy page for the longer version — who actually sees the data (just the services we need to run the app) and what we keep.
Can I get my data out?
Yes. The app prints PDFs and packets for every common "I need to hand this to someone" situation. For a structured CSV-style export of your whole flock, ask through Contact while we're early — the self-service exporter is on the roadmap.
How do I delete my account?
From the Account page. You'll get a one-time link by email — click it, confirm, and your data is hard-deleted. Owned flocks, animals, events, access grants, profile, login — all gone. No 30-day grace period, no recovery. If you change your mind later, you'll need to start over.
You don't support [X]. Will you ever?
Maybe! Tell us through Contact. We can't promise everything makes the cut, but every "I'd really use [X]" message gets read — that's literally how we know what to build.
I think I found a bug.
Please tell us — through Contact, with as much "I clicked here, I expected this, I got that" as you can manage. Bug reports from real users are gold. Thank you in advance.
